Man Utd 2 - 1 Leicester City: Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba shines for Man Utd, Sanchez struggles

For all the talks of a complete rest and pre-season training for Alexis Sanchez, he looked nothing like the player he was when he was at Arsenal. And yes, seeing him at No. 7 was even more embarrassing as he became one of those players that kept giving the ball away.

While the game ended with 2-1 for Manchester United against Leicester City at Old Trafford, don't be deceived that it will be a smooth sailing season for the Red Devils. Being a United fan and wanting the team to win might not be enough if United didn't get the link up between the midfielders and the attacks right.

There were a couple of brilliant runs made by Marcus Rashford and yes, it was most often that Sanchez overlooked such runs, making wrong decisions, taking too long to pass, miss-pass, miss-step and it seems like he had too much rest during the World Cup break that he gotten due to the absence of Chile.

Not a night for Sanchez
And I'm not alone in my views.

Here are some tweets on Sanchez's performance.

Well, if he wants to get back into the favour of Jose Mourinho and the fans, he better start performing. I'll give it a benefit of doubt that the link-up was the issue so far due to the lack of play time together. To be fair, he does look fit, just not sharp with the ball.

POGBA and Shaw is back at their best? Maybe

Some of the positives from the game was of course Paul Pogba, the World Cup winner. Despite his prolonged break due to the World Cup tournament, Pogba looks sharp.

And despite the rumours and noise surrounding his unhappiness at Old Trafford, United did bought his service for a premium and I think should be performing instead of complaining about his desire to leave. Well, the post-game interviews suggest there are rifts between him and Mourinho but it's good to see a good performance from Pogba, something that we have seen during the World Cup tournament.

Luke Shaw is simply great! Well, it's probably just one game but he was awesome. In defense as well as his support for the attack, especially with the goal that he scored.

Here's what Mourinho said of the two players.

On Pogba:

“Pogba was a monster, we thought maximum 60 minutes but he managed the 80. [Shaw’s] game was very complete, even if I forget the goal, of course an important goal for us, but the performance was very complete. I think one defensive mistake and probably the linesman could help him and give a free-kick against Leicester. But very complete performance, he just has to keep going, the mentality was very good, the tactical discipline was very good too and he had the power to move forward and score an important goal for us.”

On Luke Shaw:

"The game was very complete, even if I forget the goal, of course an important goal for us, but the performance was very complete...I think one defensive mistake and probably the linesman could help him and give a free kick against Leicester but very, very complete performance...He just has to keep going, the mentality was very good, the tactical discipline was very good too and he had the power to move forward and score an important goal for us."
