Happy Tummies project

"If you're like many in Malaysia, it's likely that the mamak or coffee culture is part of your everyday or weekly routine. What if, by giving up on one of these sessions of lepak, you could use the money that you spent on these lattes or mamak to sponsor meals for kids that came from a less fortunate background?"

A friend and colleague of mine, Shalini, reached out to the Facebook community to talk about a pilot project that she and her fiance started to provide some simple yet nutritious breakfast for children from rural or non-urban communities. It's called "Happy Tummies".

Happy Tummies

I have decided to join the project by contributing the little that I could. The cost to provide for breakfast for a kid for one week (schooling days, about 5 days) is about RM8.25. To feed all 13 children per week is about RM107.25, translates into RM429 per month.

I am only giving very little, RM50, which means about 30 meals sponsored.

I'll definitely look forward to doing more in the future, maybe not just in terms of monetary but it's great to be able to do the little for a community close to us.

If you're keen, do contact the person in charge as per the attached photo above.

The next time when you buy a cup of latte, perhaps it's also important to remember those who craves not for coffee but a simple, healthy meal.
