Anyway, just after the 0-0 draw between United and Chelsea, where Moyes actually named Rooney as the starting 11, Rooney has thanked United fans for their support. It is not a surprise, all the more when Rooney performed exceedingly well during the game.
The unsettled forward has been linked with an exit ever since former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said he had asked to leave the club for a second time.
Since then, Chelsea have made the England international their primary summer transfer target, and have seen two bids knocked back.
Following a number of injury problems, Rooney made his first start for United since April against the Blues, putting in an impressive display -- and he was backed from start to finish by the club’s supporters.
The 27-year-old has taken to his official Facebook account to thank the fans, with many having been expected to give him a hostile reception.
He wrote: “Here’s some pictures from Monday night’s game. It was an unbelievable reaction from the fans, so thank you. I really appreciate your support. It means a lot.”
It is believed Rooney will now remain at United after appearing to opt against submitting a transfer request, especially after Mourinho gave Rooney 48 hours to demand a move to Chelsea.
