Fitness Project: Why Fitness should be a priority?

We've got 24 hours a day. Most of us spend 8 hours to rest and sleep. That leaves us with 16 more hours. Another 8 to 10 hours spent on work...leaving us with just another 6 hours. Assuming you spend about an hour through and fro from your work place.

So, what are you going to do with the remaining 5 hours? Some of us would spent it watching movies, consuming media be it social media or other form while others might choose to socialize, chill out with friends. Some others might even have to study or other work commitments. If you have family, you might have to spend time with your kids or your wife, doing family activities. There goes your 24 hours.

What do you do with your 24 hours?

My question is where does this leave our health?

For me, if this is the life that I'm gonna go through every day, then I have to make a change.

I've read a lot about how people want to know bout express workout, the kind that can be done in 15 minutes. While I have nothing against it, I think the priority should change.

A lot of people (myself included) wouldn't mind skipping a day's workout or run but they won't skip their TV session. When most of us make plans for the day, we have plans to go out with our friends, we have plans for drinks, we have plans for movies, but most often we don't have plans to exercise.

While I might have been focusing a bit too much on exercise recently, I felt strange that people are asking me about why the obsession with exercise and workout. But most people don't feel it's an issue when they turn on their TV the moment they reached home from work. Apparently lying on the couch watching TV or surfing the net/Facebook is the norm in comparison to someone who want a healthier lifestyle.

If you are like many people (who put exercise as an option), I urged you to think again and here are 5 reasons that I hope can change your mind.

1) Better health

I think this reason alone should push you to go for it. It is impossible to ignore this and when you start exercise, your fitness level improves. Then you reduce the risk of diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease and other illness.

2) Increase your strength and stamina

This is what I realized when I started to get back to exercise. I was feeling tired more easily when I started running again after not doing so for a long time. I also find it more difficult to hold the weights when I started but now I'm feeling so much better. I can run faster and longer. I can carry heavier weights as well. My strength and stamina has improved significantly.

3) Better mood

Every time you exercise, your body will release endorphins that make you feel good. Exercise give you a natural high. Who needs drug anymore?

4) Keep your independence in life later

One thing most people don't realize is that we grow old, whether we like it or not. And when we grow old, our body become weaker. And the sad part is: most of us don't see it until it's too late. So, by going to exercise consistently now while you still can, it helps to reduce the impact of certain health complications as you grow older. Keeping fit helps you to be more independent for a longer period and that is very important. I'm not sure bout you but each time I saw a diabetic patient, I feel for them.

5) Sleep better

There are a lot of people who have difficulty sleeping. And it's natural to feel stressful. We all live in a stressful environment at this modern society but by going for exercise, it helps you to sleep better at night. When you exercise more you’ll start to find it easier to get a good night’s rest. This adds to the energy boost that you’ll get from exercise in the long term.

To be honest, there are really so many more reasons to start living a healthy lifestyle but if you refuse to change, even a thousand reasons will not be sufficient to move you to. I've got friends that tell me they feel good even without exercise and that they are eating healthy and in good physical condition. I wish them luck because as we grow old, that's when our body become weaker. And that's when exercise might be too late sometimes. Nevertheless, everyone are entitle to their opinion and I am only sharing what make sense in my point of view.

30 minutes only take 2.08% of your daily life, and that's what it takes to keep in good shape
If you think sparing 30 minutes for exercise on a daily basis, then that's more than enough. By giving 2.08% of your daily time to exercise, your health will improve dramatically in the long run. I don't see any disadvantage at that. I hope the same goes for you.
